Butterfly Marketing Easy Installer

To make installation of the butterfly marketing script a little easier I’ve created a Windows installer. The installer will prompt you for your FTP details and then upload the files to the location you choose. It also sets the permissions on the files and folders that require changes in order for the install to proceed.

The installer doesn’t set the files in the templates folder to ’777′ for two reasons.

1. When the script was written most hosting providers ran their web server as a different user than your CPanel account user. In recent years the vast majority of providers have changed to a more secure system and the end result of that is that it is no longer necessary to make file world writable.

2. The ’777′ permissions are appropriate for folders but inappropriate for HTML and PHP files. That makes them world writable AND executable. The appropriate permissions would be ’666′ which some people seem to avoid for superstitious reasons.

If you find that your templates aren’t saving when you update them, there is a video on the BFM site that shows how to edit the permissions. If you can’t find that video, let me know and I’ll put one up here.
